Such politeness can verge on the dull - criminally so when they bring Rihanna in for Princess of China, a duet so toothless she may as well have stayed home - but Mylo Xyloto has a leg up on other Coldplay records for this simple reason: they’re no longer attempting to mimic U2's portentous piety.

Though their collaboration with Rihanna on "Princess of China" makes it all the more explicit, when you're at Coldplay's level, pop acts are your competition and Mylo places itself in a lineage of ultra-mainstream rock records spanning from Born in the . to Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix- swaddled in synths and gilded by state-of-the-art. It's a remarkably aerodynamic piece of all-purpose inspirational rock that never gets too pushy even with Martin's ss proclamations ("You use your heart as a weapon/ And it hurts like heaven"), tweaking its classicist template with a slight Auto-Tune on the falsetto harmonies

Album · 2011 · 14 Songs. Reuniting with producer Brian Eno, Coldplay doubled down on the filigreed sound that had characterized Viva La Vida, setting Mylo's widescreen sci-fi story about love and graffiti against a backdrop of shimmering guitars, kaleidoscopic synths, and soaring choruses. Even sparingly arranged songs like the acoustic guitar–driven "Us Against the World" pulse with the drama of piano chords and gauzy atmospherics

Mylo Xyloto broke the record for the highest number of download sales in one week in the UK. The album sold 83,000 digital copies in its first seven days of release usurping the previous record held by Take That's Progress, which sold 79,800 downloads in its first week. The 447,000 copies sold by Mylo Xyloto during the first week in the US was the biggest week for a rock effort since U2's No Line On The Horizon debuted at with 484,000 in March 2009. More songs from Coldplay. More instrumental songs. More songs with marimbas or other mallet instruments. More songs from 2011.

Great Album but not perfectly mastered (LP Version) but for a 20XX Record it's quite OK

Arcanefire
The vinyl version of this album is very much lacking in bass. Almost none of it is present on the record. Poor mastering.

Marilore
Just got this release, sounds better than the CD and I had not hissing, pops or cracks, but I have to crank the volume up, not sure why it was cut so quietly.

Frostdefender
Brian Eno should stick with his ambient and leave Colplay to create their own sound.

Malak
Yeah, definitely, coldplay should steer well clear of Eno, he doesn't need these fakers contaminating his genius.

i Agree with Henry. this Record is fantastic. i love the entire mood of this album, is brilliant and full of Glory. it is very modern, so sounds totally different from their first works, but if you are open minded and not scared from a song with Rihanna (she's got a terrific voice after all) you will love it and even find it one of the finest. "charlie brown" is an amazing song, i love the strange crying intro/outro, martin voice is on top in all the songs, and there is no trace of the melancholy mood of the band, replaced by an optimistic feeling: Eno was co-producer and composer in some parts, so the keyboards job is truly reliable. Closing track reduce me to tears every time, being precise when the session change and music become stronger. This album makes any depression feeling of life disappear. it's magic, never found something so happy without being tedious.pressing is very well done. silent, not at the top but way above average.

If you like previous coldplay records i see no reason why not to like this record??? I really don't understand the négative comments from people who aparently used to like coldplay first records."Up in flames" is one of my favorite song on mylo Xyloto because of it's simplicity and also that's why i love "ghost stories" so much

My vinyl from this box has quite a bit of noise through the whole experience. The vinyl is also quite warped. Think this may have to do with the fact that its packaged inside the book and pressed against the cd. There is also some level issues Im experiencing. Seems to adjust volume on vocals noticeably in the middle of a track. This all could be a result of the warp. Not sure if anyone else has experienced this. With that said, the packaging is amazing and I love Coldplay so much!

Mash
mine hasn't got noise, but some big pops, and is not warped.the pops are relative to the manufacturing of the picture disc I think, listening to it is still great for me,but it's common knowledge that picture discs in general have a slightly worse sound than their black counterparts

Anen
A good follow up album from Coldplay. Never seem to dissapoint. Money well spent on a beautiful record in my opinion.

The album has some decent cut tracks like "Hurts Like Heaven", "Charlie Brown", "Every Teardrop Is A Waterfall", "Up With The Birds". Majority of the other tracks sound like stuff you'd be listening mainstream singers sing. Paradise tries to emulate Viva La Vida, but in an over-produced manner. Every Teardrop Is A Waterfall pulls sound from the previous album. Princess of China has a good beat and chorus, but suffers from all the sounds and noises.I seriously don't understand why Champion plays some complex beats on some songs and then is forced to play a simple beat like Up In Flames. A shame. Good drummers need not be drowned out by pop music. It IS nice to see a band change direction, but not in such a footloose manner. What happened the interesting sound of X&Y? Gone. A Rush of Blood To The Head? It's sort of there, but still gone. Parachutes? Blown out of the water. The main problem here is influence. If the band considered Brian Eno as one of the crew, then I better jump ship now. The three interludes are interludes of his design, not something the band would come up with. Charlie Brown and Don't Let It Break Your Heart sound too much like The Killers' more recent stuff, pieces of Major Minus remind me of Muse, and Up In Flames is oh-dear-God. UFO and Us Against The World have some hints back at Parachutes and A Message, but Chris' singing is half-hearted on them. The only songs reminding me of the previous albums and Coldplay overall are Up With The Birds, UFO and Us Against The World, even though they do so remotely. Another major issue with the album has been noted by others... THE SOUND, it is ALL over the place!! They paste this as a concept album yet the sound is disorganized in an ungodly manner. If they didn't have that issue, it would've sounded better. But I guess the sound is representative in the album art.Call me disgruntled, but the usual three year wait this time around was not worth it. I will not be seeing this live, though I saw Viva La Vida live. If they continue this path I will no longer buy their albums. Hopefully, as Chris Martin stated, that acoustic album comes out soon.

If the album wasn't that bad, I'd buy that box.

Coldplay has completely lost the plot. What happened to the soul from Parachutes.
