Dawn of the Dickies was The Dickies' second album, released in 1979. It included the UK hits "Nights in White Satin" (a high-speed cover of a Moody Blues song) which reached No. 39 in the UK chart in September 1979 and "Fan Mail" which made No. 57 in February 1980. The album's title and jacket cover, depicting the band members set upon by "zombies" in blue make-up, was a salute to the George A. Romero horror film, Dawn of the Dead. Where Did His Eye Go?" - 3:41 (Phillips, Lee).

The Dickies march boldly past the three-minute song duration mark on their second release. Tempos for the most part here are a little less frantic, allowing the inherent tunefulness of these songs to come through more clearly. A few selections, particularly those with monster movie lyrics, are set to noticeably slower music; one of these numbers, "Attack of the Mole Men," sports highly unusual chord progressions and comes as close to being a big production number as the group ever gets.

The Dickies were amongst the first punk rock bands to emerge from Los Angeles, and the first California punk band to be signed to a major record label and appear on network television. The Dickies' style was campy and humorous with obvious influences from the Ramones.

The Dickies album "Dawn Of The Dickies" can be described as an album that was ahead of their time and ahead of the Ramones. This Dickies album sounds like what the Ramones did on their 1980 album with Phil Spector entitled "End of the Century". Were the Ramones influenced by this album? I don't know, but the songs reminded me of "Do you remember Rock and Roll Radio?" by the Ramones. With that being said, the Dickies were original and ahead of their time. The album is full of good songs with good hooks and silly lyrics
