The Serpent Fairy And The Magic Mirror. B1. The Slippers Of Misfortune.

Japanese Fairy Tales (1908), after encouragement from Lang. Simultaneously, writers such as Hans Christian Andersen and George MacDonald continued the tradition of literary fairy tales. Andersen's work sometimes drew on old folktales, but more often deployed fairytale motifs and plots in new tales  . This system groups fairy and folk tales according to their overall plot. Common, identifying features are picked out to decide which tales are grouped together. Much therefore depends on what features are regarded as decisive.

About: England has been the birthplace of many of the most well-known children’s stories including Jack and the Beanstalk and Tom Thumb- the little boy no bigger than his father’s thumb. Similar to other European countries, the English fairy tale tradition emerged from those folklore stories that are believed to have originated in the British Isles. The goal of his work was to popularize folk tales of England among children and adults, as many readers were caught up in the folk tales of Germany and France at the time. Jacobs is one of the most known English storytellers of folk tales and fairy tales, and his work also helped preserve ballads, after he wrote them as tales. He later published a second volume, More English Fairy Tales.

The 20 tales contained in this volume were chosen which because they are not familiar to the English-reading public, so be prepared for the richness of original, ancient Japanese knowledge and lore. Another factor in their selection was because of their beauty and charm of incident and colour, than with the aim to represent the many-sided subject of Japanese lore. Herein you will find tales like: The Birth-Time Of The Gods, The Sun-Goddess, The Heavenly Messengers, The Palace Of The Ocean-Bed, The Star-Lovers, The Island Of Eternal Youth, The Moon-Maiden plus many more
