Sympathy for the Devil (album). Sympathy for the Devil is a compilation album by Laibach and follows on from their Beatles cover album Let It Be. Sympathy for the Devil features seven cover versions of the Rolling Stones song "Sympathy for the Devil" and one original Laibach track. The tracks are recorded both by Laibach and a variety of side projects with Laibach members (including Dreihunderttausend Verschiedene Krawalle and Germania).

Part of Laibach's two-pronged attack on rock & roll via two of its most omnipresent icons - the Beatles' Let It Be being the other source of ire - Sympathy for the Devil is indeed a collection of versions of the Rolling Stones song. The weirdly ecstatic shimmer and shake of the original gets demolished and reconstructed thoroughly, Laibach's by-now trademark approach of Wagner-ian stomp and bombast and growled vocals turning the tune into something else again.

Sympathy for the Devil" is a song by English rock band the Rolling Stones, written by Mick Jagger and Keith Richards. It is the opening track on their 1968 album Beggars Banquet. Rolling Stone magazine placed it at number 32 on its list of the "500 Greatest Songs of All Time". The working title of the song was "The Devil Is My Name", having earlier been called "Fallen Angels". Part of Laibach's two-pronged attack on rock & roll via two of its most omnipresent icons - the Beatles' Let It Be being the other source of ire - Sympathy for the Devil is indeed a collection of versions of the Rolling Stones song.
