Their first album, The Electric Prunes, included the band's two nationally charting songs, "I Had Too Much to Dream (Last Night)" and "Get Me to the World on Time". With the appearance of their second album, Underground, the band was more free to create their own material. However, the original group disbanded by 1968 when they proved unable to record the innovative and complex arrangements by David Axelrod on the albums Mass in F Minor and Release of an Oath. The band's follow-up single, "Get Me to the World on Time", which put distorted sound effects to a psychedelic-tinged Bo Diddley beat, was released in May 1967.

The Electric Prunes, sometimes referred to as I Had Too Much to Dream (Last Night), is the 1967 debut album by the American garage rock band, the Electric Prunes, released on Reprise Records. The first track, "I Had Too Much to Dream (Last Night)", was a hit and became the band's signature tune. The album also contains another notable psychedelic rock composition, "Get Me to the World on Time". The album was listed in the book 1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die.

Get Me to the World on Time," which spotlighted Ritter's jazz influence in the song's second half, hit No. 27. But his time in the band was short-lived. He left in 1967, just as the Electric Prunes were almost finished recording their second album. He then played with Linda Ronstadt, the Beach Boys and Dobie Gray. After that, Ritter worked as a DJ, a police officer, a private investigator and a non-denominational Christian missionary in Korea, where he taught theology. He was also a published author of several books about drumming and theology. Ritter returned to drumming.
