Pink Floyd have been known to perform and/or record a number of songs and instrumentals which have never been officially released on a single or album. Only those whose existence can be reliably confirmed are listed here. Bootleg recordings of the majority of below listed songs exist. Several previously unreleased songs appeared on The Early Years 1965–1972 box set in November 2016, which marked their first official release.

The 11-track album was promptly rejected by Epic. Even Simmons agrees it was for the best. Wicked Lester may be an interesting collection of songs, but I don't get a backbone or an identity from it," he reflected. Dubbed Household Objects, the project consisted of Pink Floyd playing songs on hand mixers, light bulbs, wood saws, hammers, brooms and other home appliances. Recording in this manner was excruciating. We'd spend days getting a pencil and a rubber band till it sounded like a bass," Wright remembered in a 2007 BBC documentary.
On Household Objects, they made serendipitous discoveries using-as the title clearly stated-found sounds, in the vein of John Cage or the avant-garde composers of musique concrete. Household Objects recording sessions, writes Rolling Stone, consisted of Pink Floyd playing songs on hand mixers, light bulbs, wood saws, hammers, brooms and other home appliances. Wright and Gilmour grew exasperated and the band moved on to other things, namely Wish You Were Here.

Pink Floyd’s 1975 album Wish You Were Here is filled with sounds easily missed by even the most dedicated listener. There’s jazz virtuoso Stéphane Grappelli playing faint violin on the title track, and the refrain from Floyd’s 1967 hit See Emily Play on Shine On You Crazy Diamond Part IX. The first sound heard on the album is an eerie drone created by fingers running around the rims of wine glasses, each filled with varying amounts of liquid to create different notes
