Released December 30, 1905. The Merry Widow Tracklist. About The Merry Widow. This Viennese operetta premiered in Vienna in December 1905 and quickly became a global hit of proportions that wouldn’t be seen again for decades. The plot concerns a recently widowed heiress from a fictitious Balkan country whose diplomats scheme to have her marry a compatriot so that her fortune won’t leave the country.

Franz Lehar (Composer) Format: Vinyl. By 1952, "The Merry Widow" had been playing more or less continually somewhere in America for 45 years. Pick-up singers and accompaniments adjusted to fit local abilities and talents had become the rule. It is clear that this 1952 revival was intended to be a class act.

Franz Lehár, Die lustige Witwe (The Merry Widow). I: Introduction - "Verehrteste Damen und Herren". Ich bin eine anständ'ge Frau". The Merry Widow blends skillfully the elements that made the success of the genre of the operetta: lightheartedness, cheekiness, slapsticks of every kind; elements brought to the fore with brio by the remarkable production of Helmut Lohner, and the stunning Dagmar Schellenberger in the role of Hanna Glawari.

Sung in English, the story of the comic operetta is set in Paris and follows a wealthy widow who teases the idea of reuniting with an old flame. Location Skip Viragh Center for Performing Arts at Chaminade 425 425 S. Lindbergh Blvd. Date & Time Oct 28, 2016 7:30 PM to 11:00 PM.
