The RCA Victor & T-Neck Album Masters, a brick of an Isley Brothers box set, contains 21 albums from the beloved vocal group, nearly all expanded with single mixes and other assorted rarities. A close listen to the collection underscores how they may have been reliable but they were never static. They were keenly aware of emerging trends, and hearing these albums back-to-back underscores that progression. Givin' It Back coincided with the rise of album-oriented radio and, as there was now an audience consuming albums as albums, the Isleys began structuring their long-players as immersive experiences. Retroactively, these records do have a crossover appeal, due in no small part to their lasting legacy within the R&B demographic, a legacy echoed through samples that underpinned crossover hip-hop hits of the '90s.
Images is the third album by the American pop group The Walker Brothers. Released in 1967 the album reached number six on the UK Albums Chart. It was the last of their trio of 1960s albums. They would not record together again until 1975's No Regrets. The group's musical accompaniment was directed by Reg Guest and produced by John Franz.
Shelton wasn't the only singer fond of the tune: George Jones recorded it in 1990, while Kenny Rogers followed suit three years later. The song reached No. 1 on the country charts and helped Shelton sell out the dates for a massive headlining tour. Shelton's fifth No. 1 single kicks off with the regretful lines, "Red roadside flower, if I'd only picked you, Took you home, set you on the counter, At least a time or tw. The aching story of an abandoned lover who realizes too late that his self-centered ways are what prompted the goodbye says he'll be "Driving like hell, flying crazy down the highway, Calling everyone we know, stopping any place she might go" to try to win her back.
