I'm Coming Home is an album by American pop singer Johnny Mathis that was released on September 21, 1973, by Columbia Records and was mainly composed of material written by the songwriting team of its producer, Thom Bell, and Linda Creed. Unlike several of the Mathis albums before it, I'm Coming Home relied primarily on new songs and included only two covers of established chart hits, both of which were by The Stylistics ("I'm Stone in Love with You" and "Stop Look and Listen to Your Heart").

Sonic Boom, founder of Spacemen 3 with Jason Pierce, went on to form Spectrum in 1990 and has since released a number of albums in that name and continues to perform live as Spectrum. This is a pair of Holiday covers from Dean Wareham, Britta Phillips, and Sonic Boom ... meaning: Galaxie 500, Jem, and Spacemen 3 collaborating on a seasonal disc?! Yep! And, in a shock to your late 1980's sensibilities, it’s a rootin’-tootin’ family-time success, no joke. These are both some comfortably warm, gather-round-the-hearth marshmallows spiked with enough sleepy psych and valium, to avoid all saccharine sap. “He’s Coming Home,” sung by Britta, is a jaunty yet wistful seasonal love song whose reverb-heavy, Wilson-esque production, gives the song a richness that doesn’t take away from its pleasant breeziness. I seem to remember “Old Toy Trains” [by Roger Miller] appearing as a limited download several years ago, but it makes its first physical appearance here, and thank the powers that be for this warm dream. Wareham croons wonderfully, while Sonic Boom’s familiar sustained keyboard chords crackle throughout ... and it's all just fantastic! This single is limited to 500, so fuzzhead sentimentalists the world over oughta’ buy it up now, or cry about it on eBay later. Consider that your warning ...
