Fantasia and Fugue in G minor ("Great"), BWV 542 (Fugue). 8. Passacaglia & Theme Fugue In C Minor, BWV 582. Product details. Performer: Marie-Claire Alain. Nobody plays the Passacaglia & Fugue in C minor like Marie-Claire Alain! The sheer power and majesty of her interpretation of this landmark Bach selection is unrivaled. I still remember the first time I heard it when I was in my twenties, back in the 1980s. I had thought that E. Power Biggs had the last word on every major Bach piece. I was absolutely floored! This was THE performance!

Fugue in G minor, BWV 578, (popularly known as the Little Fugue), is a piece of organ music written by Johann Sebastian Bach during his years at Arnstadt (1703–1707). It is one of Bach's best known fugues and has been arranged for other voices, including an orchestral version by Leopold Stokowski.
In 1950 the is had been published: it was no longer needed to indicate the Toccata and Fugue in D minor as Peters Vol. IV, No. 4, as BGA Volume XV p. 267, as Novello VI, 1, or without "Dorian" to distinguish it from the Toccata and Fugue with the same key signature: hence it was simply BWV 565, and the other, the so-called Dorian, was BWV 53. Hans-Joachim Schulze paints the force of the piece on a record sleeve:. Here is elemental and unbounded power, in impatiently ascending and descending runs and rolling masses of chords, that only with difficulty abates sufficiently to give place to the logic and balance of the fugue.
