2016’s best funk albums! This year was insanely tough. There weren’t a lot of true funk releases, but we hear that 2017 has some great funk coming down the pike including a new album from both George Clinton and Parliament. But without retyping the same things we always say, here’s our pre-ramble. What about Brian Culbertson Funk! album? Or Vulfpeck, The Beautiful Game. Or Beat Funktion’s Greenman?

The untitled ninth studio album by American rapper Nas was released by Def Jam Recordings and Columbia Records on July 15, 2008 in the United States, with earlier dates in some other countries. Its original title, Nigger, was changed due to controversy surrounding the racial epithet. The album is distinguished for its political content, diverse sources of production and provocative subject matter.

DJ Funk's usual ghetto slap stick antics are here glued together by some top notch techno production, and IMHO (not that you asked for it) perhaps his greatest collection of tracks on one 12". The wonky 'Free At last' and 'Run (U.K)' (that relentless bass & Lil Louis samples kill everything in its path) are both certified techno classics, hammered by the likes of Jeff Mills et all back in the day, while 'Pump It (Chi-A-Mi Mix)' is a funk-bomb you can't stand still to. The quality control here is high, this being an absolute gem from Funk & a real highlight from the Barney's Distribution Cat...

This is Chuck Chambers (a.k.a. DJ Funk) in his finest moment. A record that has been an important part of techno history and included in DJ mixes by Jeff Mills, Joey Beltram, Bad Boy Bill, Derrick May, Carl Cox and myself. It is unlikely that one record could wind up in so many commercially released DJ mix albums but somehow DJ Funk captured a moment that has become a part of techno history. Based on a twisted sample of Lil Louis 'The Conversation', this song has packed many dancefloors for years just from the sheer energy of the snare over kick 4/4 action. Not really a 'novelty' track like most of Funk's other works, this one just worked.....

"Run" has to be the best DJ Funk track ever - perhaps on a par with "Work That Body" - the latter being much more reminiscent of Funk's style, and that of Chicago house music. "Run" however, is a huge departure from that sound; deep, pumping, melodic and trippy. These days it's almost overplayed...but not quite. Essential DJ Funk.

this is the Original DJ 003 and was released 1994, the ohter are Rereleases and different to the originals. was released 1994.
