Rio is the second studio album by English new wave band Duran Duran, originally released worldwide on 10 May 1982. It reached number two in the United Kingdom and number one in Australia and Canada. The album was re-released in the United States in November 1982. It earned a Gold disc on 1 March 1983, and was certified Platinum on 26 April 1983, eventually reaching Double Platinum status

Duran Duran came back out of nowhere in early 1993 with a new album and a huge hit, "Ordinary World. Taken on its own terms, Duran Duran (The Wedding Album) works every bit as well as Duran Duran, Rio, or Seven and the Ragged Tiger

The demand for Duran Duran material during the autumn of 1982 was quite high. DJs who heard the new mixes could not get enough, and started to put the dance mixes on the air. During the week of 2 October, the US version of the Carnival EP actually entered the album charts at It was gone by the following week. The success of the Carnival EP gave the band enough clout to bring Kershenbaum back in to remix the entire A-side of the Rio album, which was re-issued in the United States in November 1982.
