A Life to Die For. "Please retry". 2013 release, the 11th studio album from the Dannish Prog Metal band. A Life to Die for features singer DC Cooper, who is the vocalist on the two most popular albums from the band - Moving Target and Paradox. A Life to Die for is a concept album, which sees the band expand their musical boundaries and turn up their symphonic and grandiose musical element to the max.

Royal Hunt is a veteran Danish Progressive Metal band headed up by keyboardist Andre Andersen, and A Life To Die For (think about that title for a few seconds) is their 12th studio release. DC Cooper is again behind the microphone for this album, and his talents seem perfectly suited for the band’s current direction, which incorporates more than occasional Symphonic and Orchestral Metal elements. There are only 7 tracks comprising A Life To Die For, but as is the case with many progressive bands, each track features plenty of length

With the Royal Hunt-by-numbers "Running Out of Tears" also not a winner, that leaves only two songs from this album that really hold much merit. Midtempo track "Sign of Yesterday" asks the least from Cooper out of all the songs here, letting its musical merits come through, and the closing title track is basically a rewrite of the band's concert closer "Epilogue," riding along on some bouncy Larsen riffs and having a dramatic coda at the end. It also has probably the best vocals on the album, including the one good high passage. Followup Devil's Dozen is marginally better. Regardless, A Life To Die For is when the two-decade run of consistently strong Royal Hunt music came to its end.

Despite my love for them I was always more into the albums from the . Joining the band in 1994 he propelled the band to its greatest period of success. As is the story so often, Cooper left the band leaving them flagging somewhat. A Life To Die For is a great album, but not as great as I had hoped it to be. Royal Hunt sound more like Kamelot, which is the furthest thing from an insult as Kamelot is a tremendously talented band. However, if I want to hear Kamelot I’d rather it not be on a Royal Hunt record. Having said that, I’m glad they’re still making music and taking some chances and trying different things. Sometimes experimentation works and sometimes it fails horribly.
