Jamal Moss, AKA Hieroglyphic Being is set to release Compositeurs Sans Frontieres on Music from Mathematics, a sublabel of Mathematics Recordings. Moss says that during the past 14 years he recorded over 1,000 experimental electronic compositions, resulting in what he refers to as the Somuchnoise2beheard Soundbook, hence the title of his 2009 full-length So Much Noise 2 Be Heard. Compositeurs Sans Frontieres collects 12 more of these pieces, all of which were recorded between 1996 and 1999 at The Galaxy Studios in Chicago

Jamal Moss aka Hieroglyphic Being will release his definitive solo album of 2016 – The Disco’s Of Imhotep – via Ninja Tune’s Technicolour imprint on 5th August. He has built a sterling reputation both as a producer and live performer of deep, mesmeric experimental electronics and free jazz rooted in his native Chicago and his relationship with the city’s fertile underground club scene. Releasing prolifically on his own Mathematics Recordings imprint and a clutch of other imprints including RVNG Intl. He balances his ancient heritage and musical DNA with a passion to experiment, create and channel music as a healing force, which has resulted in his art being tagged Afrofuturist.

Hieroglyphic Being The Red Notes Euan Andrews, February 23rd, 2018 14:10. Deep joy, beatific wisdom and, big fun from Jamal Moss for Soul Jazz. There is deep joy, beatific wisdom and, yes, big fun to be found within the grooves of this latest LP release from Jamal Moss under his Hieroglyphic Being moniker, his second under that name for Soul Jazz

Pompiers Sans Frontières, Aix-en-Provence, France.

Hieroglyphic Being, aka Jamal Moss, is an artist who marches to the beat of his own drum. He is a willfully prolific artist, confident in his ability but certainly not one to shout about it. With releases on his own Mathematics Recordings label and a slew of releases for Spectral Sound and Soul Jazz, he has proven himself time and time again to be a unique talent. Last LP, 2016's The Disco's of Imhotep seemed like the perfect summation of his career up to that point as he confidently moved from trippy experimental techno to classic kinetic Chicago house all with a healthy sprinkling.

Oh god, this is beautiful. I'm a relative new comer to Jamal Moss' HB project but I'm already enthralled. Rhythmic, raw, mysterious and funky, these compositions are the missing link between Jeff Mills and 70s electronic music of Cabaret Voltaire, NON, TG and Suicide. Gothic, decadent and other-worldly, I can recommend it to fans of newer bands like Vatican Shadow, Ancient Methods, Demdike Stare, Raime, Rrose and Sandwell District (including Silent Servant). Just superb, timeless electronic sound.
