You and Me" is a song by American alternative rock band Lifehouse. It is the first single released from their third studio album, Lifehouse (2005). The track was written by lead singer Jason Wade and American record producer Jude Cole. It was recorded and produced by John Alagía at his home studio in Easton, Maryland. The song was first released via digital download on January 28, 2005. It was then solicited to mainstream radio on March 15, 2005.

You and Me is Lifehouse’s first single released from their eponymous third studio album, Lifehouse. Musically, You and Me is a melodic pop rock song which, by today’s standards, has a notably high emphasis on acoustics. It also contains influences of adult alternative. On May 19, 2005, the song was certified Gold by the RIAA for selling more than 500,000 units in the United States. In 2005, it became the ninth most downloaded song, according to Nielen SoundScan.

You And Me". What day is it? And in what month? This clock never seemed so alive I can't keep up and I can't back down I've been losing so much time. Cause it's you and me and all of the people with nothing to do, nothing to lose And it's you and me and all of the people And I don't know why I can't keep my eyes off of you. All of the things that I want to say just aren't coming out right I'm tripping on words You got my head spinning I don't know where to go from here  . And me and all of the people with nothing to do and nothing to prove And it's you and me and all of the people And I don't know why I can't keep my eyes off of you. What day is it? And in what month? This clock never seemed so alive.

In the last 14 years, Lifehouse has released six albums, debuting with the multi-platinum album No Name Face in the year 2000. The group includes Jason Wade (lead vocals, guitar), Rick Woolstenhulme Jr. (drums, percussion) and Bryce Soderberg (vocals, bass guitar). They have sold upwards of fifteen million singles and albums worldwide to date.

The album enjoyed double-platinum sales on the strength of "Hanging by a Moment," which was the most played radio track of 2001. In a market dominated by teen pop, Lifehouse stood out as champions of guitar-based music, and their unexpected success drew them back inside the studio to work on a follow-up album. With Brendan O'Brien handling production duties, Wade led his band through the recording of Stanley Climbfall during the spring and summer of 2002. The record was released on Dreamworks the following September, but it failed to match the sales of its predecessor. Lifehouse and Who We Are proved to be fairly popular releases, with both albums going gold thanks to a trio of Top 40 singles: "First Time," "You and Me," and "Whatever It Takes. Smoke & Mirrors appeared three years later, sporting a collaboration with rapper/songwriter Kevin Rudolf on the leadoff single "Halfway Gone.
