The Cannonball Adderley Quintet in San Francisco is a 1959 album by The Cannonball Adderley Quintet. The groundbreaking album launched "soul jazz", according to NPR, bridging "the gap between bebop and funk".
Cannonball Adderley Quintet in Chicago (later released as Cannonball & Coltrane in 1964, on Limelight) is an album by jazz saxophonist Cannonball Adderley, his final release on the Mercury label, featuring performances by Adderley with John Coltrane, Wynton Kelly, Paul Chambers and Jimmy Cobb. With Bill Evans substituting for Wynton Kelly on most tracks, these musicians would record the classic album Kind of Blue (1959), with regular employer Miles Davis, shortly after this session.
The warm, exuberant feel of the quintet is especially evident on the set's two finest tracks - a spirited take on Randy Weston's "Hi-Fly," and on Timmons' swinging "This Here. Two of Adderley's own compositions, "Spontaneous Combustion" and "You Got It!," blend blazing post-bop dexterity with pulsing, infectious blues structures. Both Cannonball and Nat Adderley play with stunning, bluesy brilliance here, while the rhythm section ably anchors the proceedings

San Francisco was one of the original bitmap typefaces for the Apple Macintosh computer released in 1984. It was designed by Susan Kare to mimic the ransom note effect and was used in early Mac software demos and Apple company fliers. An official TrueType version was never made, and San Francisco was rendered obsolete with the arrival of System 7. Saint Francis, by Hank Gillette, is a free TrueType font of similar design sometimes used as a surrogate on non-Apple systems. It is considered extinct and is one of the several 6,000 m (19,700 ft) peaks in the area, of which the chief is the Ojos del Salado.
