The art of slide guitar begins here, with the players assembled in this collection, and it forms a perfect introduction to this blues subgenre. From Blind Lemon Jefferson's "Jack O'Diamond Blues," with his slide cutting through the hailstorm static of a badly preserved 78, to the powerful slide punctuations of Bukka White on "Bukka's Jitterbug Swing," this anthology features some stunning and powerful performances.

Roll & Tumble Blues - Hambone Willie Newbern. 17. Jake Bottle Blues - Lemuel Turner. 18. Weak Minded Blues - Willie Baker. This is the most comprehensive showcase of Slide Guitar playing ever assembled, tracing the genre's recorded origins and developments over the course of more than 70 years. It highlights the work of both famous and obscure musicians, who'd all mastered the technique of playing simultaneous rhythm and lead with the use of a bottleneck, a steel ferrule or even the haft of a knife. Some of the more readily known blues names were proficient in this style including Charley Patton, Leadbelly, Robert Johnston and Elmore James

A generation of blues-influenced rockers toyed with slide guitar for several years, slowly bringing it into mainstream music (Check out Jeff Beck's performance on "Evil Hearted You" by the Yardbirds), but no one dragged it into the modern era quite like Duane Allman of the Allman Brothers Band. He used the slide to imitate the sound of a blues harp-not to mention mesmerize countless concert goers who were knocked out by his dexterity and intensity.

Incredible slide guitar singer, gospel blues, extraordinarily talented man. A voice that at first is a little bit hard to get into because it’s a bit growly and they’re not great recordings, but once you get past that, you’re listening to - no question - one of the great musicians of all time. Definitive and important. Prev Page 5 of 13 Next. There are various albums covering these sessions. Here’s an artist where there’s a pile of material of less interest, novelty songs, gospel song. ut when it comes to his good stuff, there’s a handful of material that’s the greatest blues ever recorded, so he’s really important.
