Get Up with It is a compilation album by American jazz trumpeter, bandleader, and composer Miles Davis. Released by Columbia Records on November 22, 1974, it compiled songs Davis had recorded in sessions between 1970 and 1974, including those for the studio albums Jack Johnson (1971) and On the Corner (1972). In The Rolling Stone Album Guide (2004), J. D. Considine described the compilation's music as "worldbeat fusion".
Get Up With It was Miles' last studio album before he took a long break, and shows him at the absolute apex of his mid-70s creativity. Get Up With It' is a collection of tracks that Davis and company recorded over the early half of the '70s, and although it is considered by many fusion afficionados to be among Davis' finest works, it seems to me that the man's ravenous drug habit was beginning to lead to some miscalculations on his part.
Miles Davis' 1974 double album, 'Get Up With It'. A jazz fusion album in the best way possible, many of the tracks feature Miles blasting off into space on the organ. African percussion, tabla, and sitar is heard throughout; which at times gives it a repetitive groove which many would probably liken to krautrock. My standout track here is the opener, 'He Loved Him Madly' - a tender but spacey homage to Duke Ellington, which isn't surprising given the inscription in the gatefold, 'For Duke' .

That's been Columbia/Legacy's modus operandi for Bitches Brew, In a Silent Way, and now Jack Johnson : put out the box set and after a suitable, cash-draining interval, cough up the remastered album alone. John McLaughlin has stated that he spontaneously started playing the straight-ahead rock shuffle "Right Off" and that Miles, characteristically, went with it; in any case, this song is the closest thing to pure rock music Miles ever attempted. Drummer Cobham pounds out a simple (for him) backbeat and bassist Henderson just grooves along in a manner no jazz bassist ever could. It's too simple; jazz fingers would stray.
