Swansong The follow-up and sequel to 2015’s acclaimed double CD 'Now We Have Light' ( a masterpiece, in the words of All About Jazz magazine) continues the story of Don through a surreal lyrical and musical landscape. This timeless album is a great life companion, every now and the to be played again whenever you're in need of listening to something really special.

Only for completionists (0%). Paul left after that album, being replaced by Andrew Booker, but has returned as a guest in time for the sequel to 2015's acclaimed concept album 'Now We Have Light'.

Now we have a ‘proper’ concept album. Now We Have Light, Sanguine Hum’s third, is set on a future Earth, which is plunged into darkness after a catastrophic explosion. A man named Don invents a valuable renewable energy source. This he does by combining the power of cats always landing the right way up with the power of toast always landing buttered side down. Sanguine Hum thoughtfully provide a lengthy backstory booklet: they’ve taken this with covertly winking seriousness. There are knowing echoes of Rael’s journey-flight in The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway (and let’s face it, nobody was ever entirely sure about the fine detail of that either), The Hitchhiker’s Guide To The Galaxy and Frank Zappa’s Joe’s Garage.

Now We Have Light is the third Sanguine Hum album, following on from the acclaimed albums Diving Bell and the Weight of the World. A full-blown double CD concept album, the band have been working on the album for over a decade and its roots go back to the days of Antique Seeking Nuns, Joff Winks and Matt Baber’s pre Sanguine Hum band. A future parable set in an entirely possible scenario, in which entirely impossible events start occurring, the concept is a twisted mix of Hitch-Hikers Guide to the Galaxy, Frank Zappa’s Joe’s Garage and the Lamb Lies Down On Broadway.

Although a core group of songs were written for this album as far back as 2002, the band were inspired by the most recent Sanguine Hum material to revisit the old tunes and where needed develop and rewrite what already existed, whilst also creating a large amount of brand new music at the same time. Ultimately, it has come to represent a definitive cross section of all the work that they have made as Antique Seeking Nuns, Joff Winks Band, Nunbient and Sanguine Hum thus far.

Sanguine Hum was formed from the ashes of the Joff Winks Band and the Antique Seeking Nuns (a heady mix of Zappa and Canterbury influenced instrumental compositions with songwriting that owed much to artists such as Robert Wyatt). However, after a year of not performing live and only working in the studio, the need for the duo to be back in a band reached a feverish pitch. Visit their official site.
