Friends is the sixth album by American R&B group Shalamar, released in 1982 on the SOLAR label. The album, which features the 'classic' Shalamar line-up (Jeffrey Daniel, Howard Hewett and Jody Watley), topped the R&B chart and peaked at on the Billboard chart. It wasn't until Hewitt was replaced by Sidney Justin in 1987 that Shalamar really became a lost cause. By the time Wake Up was recorded in 1990, the trio was a disaster both creatively and commercially. New jack swing was quite the rage in 1990, and Solar obviously reasoned that Shalamar should cater to that market. But sadly, the results are robotic and completely forgettable on such knee-jerk, automatic-pilot cuts as "Groove Talk," "Caution: This Love Is Hot" and the title song.

Wake Up is the tenth and last album by American R&B group Shalamar, released in 1990 on the SOLAR label. It is the second Shalamar album to feature the line-up of Delisa Davis, Micki Free and Sydney Justin. In an attempt to keep Shalamar relevant to a contemporary market, the album was heavily influenced by the then-dominant new jack swing style, but the end result was generally considered, at the least, disappointing. Wake Up failed to register on any chart in either the USA or the UK, neither did it produce a charting single in either country.
