Winston Rodney OD (born 1 March 1945), better known by the stage name Burning Spear, is a Jamaican roots reggae vocalist and musician. Burning Spear is a Rastafarian and one of the most influential and long-standing roots artists to emerge from the 1970s. Winston Rodney was born in Saint Ann's Bay, Saint Ann, Jamaica. As a young man he listened to the R&B, soul and jazz music transmitted by the US radio stations whose broadcasts reached Jamaica.

Ideologically, Spear's music was comparable to that of the Abyssinians, who also got their start at Studio One, recording their groundbreaking "Happy Land" (aka "Satta Massagana") in 1968. Both groups were among the first to deal openly with Rastafarian themes on record. Though Spear's early releases failed to achieve the success of some of his more fortunate labelmates, they form a significant part of the singer's body of work and, therefore, reggae music in general. With no other alternative, however, Presenting is still unreservedly recommended.

But Burning Spear was startlingly different. The duo’s arrival at Studio One heralded a new sound with serious gravity, proclaiming a Rastafari identity and revelling in their African heritage. More than any other act, Burning Spear really kickstarted the roots reggae era. Burning Spear voiced around 20 songs at Studio One over the course of a five-year period, and pretty much the entire catalogue is classic. Like most of the tracks on the Rocking Time album, ‘Swell Headed’ is delivered by Winston Rodney alone. And as with ‘Door Peeper’, it uses Rastafari dialect to deliver a message of defiance that is grounded in the perspective of a Rastafari follower. Regardless of whatever evil his enemies may wish on him, Rodney won’t allow vanity to go to his head; instead, he will ground with his brother to reach a better understanding of what is taking place in his life and the world.

Studio One Presents Burning Spear. Studio One Presents Burning Spear was Burning Spear's debut album, released in 1973. Ethiopians Live It Out". Don't Mess With Jill". Down By The Riverside". Burning Spear - Swell Headed Songtext. Is a lucky ting I never get swell headed Is a lucky ting I never get swell headed And started to run, run, run, I will never run away And started to run, run, run, I will never run away. Do you hear?
