Collecting a series of singles first issued between 1989 and 1992, Independency charts Bark Psychosis' extraordinary period of evolution prior to the creation of their lone studio LP, Hex. Opening with the delicate "I Know," the set grows by leaps and bounds, expanding in complexity and innovation over the course of tracks like "Manman" and "Tooled Up" before culminating in the 21-minute improvisational ambient opus "Scum," perhaps the band's definitive moment.

Independecy has not received its proper due. There simply isn't a bad track on this incredibly diverse album. It contains quiet tracks, like the ambient masterwork "Scum", and some sound experiments or flat out rockers like 'Man Man' that bring about a semi-creepy vibe. The lush, silently beautiful 'Blood Rush' and climactic 'All Different Things' are perhaps the best songs Bark Psychosis has ever done. I was stunned to learn that 'All Different Things' was recorded in 8. .talk about an omen for all of the "post-rock" to follow.

crazy mashine
It's a shame this is released without approval, I didn't look up any details, pretty much bought instantly. Nothing wrong on the job itself though, pressing sounds excellent and is on vibrant red vinyl.

Thirded. It’s a shame this release is shrouded in dispute, but I wasn’t able to resist (sorry Graham). I’m glad I wasn’t. The pressing sounds tremendous - crisp, ominous, dynamic, droning, everything Bark Psychosis represent is here, present and correct.

Concur. I love this album, I couldn’t walk past it. Great pressing actually, my only complaint is that the packaging is lackluster at best. Graham would have done a better job.

BUYER BEWARE: RSD issue of Bark Psychosis “Independency” is unapproved and made despite being asked not to. No approval of tracklisting. No approval of artwork. No approval of mastering. No approval of pressings. Can't vouch for veracity of masters used. You get the picture. From Graham Suttons twitter: https://twitter.com/GPSutton/status/1101441632107446272

It’s from the same firm that have the rights for the Spacemen 3 catalogue and endlessly reissue that on different coloured discs. Feel a bit disloyal for getting this and would happily buy another if Graham can do the authorised version, or better still a complete remastered collection of all the singles and B sides. The pressing sounds alright but the sleeve is no frills, plain inner sleeves and no insert, credits or sleeve notes....not a patch on the Hex and C.D. reissues which are immaculate (as you’d expect from Mr Sutton).

if the band does not own the rights the the release, there's nothing they can do.

Sh*t! Wish I'd seen this before, this was the only thing I bought today on RSD. I guess this explains the lack of any sleeve notes and poor quality sleeve design. Will update once I've listened to it...

A vinyl release on this year's Record Store Day has been announced, however according to Graham Sutton himself, he has no involvement on it, nor his authorization, and it's being handled by the same person who handled the band-unauthorized Spacemen 3 reissues: https://twitter.com/GPSutton/status/1101441632107446272As a customer, you have the right to just not care about this and buy it while it's there, just keep in mind it probably won't receive the same attention and care as the albums' remasters.

Hoping this - maybe an expanded version to include Reserve Shot Gunman, Murder City and the Blue EP - will follow the Codename Dustsucker reissue on Fire in the future.

You right! We need the LP for this amazing album!

I find it it cruel and inhumane for such a beautiful album/album art to not exist on LP anywhere.
