Here's 15 jazz albums for musicians to study. They would be easily candidates for my top 25 list but they aren't quite as popular and famous. Miles Davis - "Four" & More - Miles Davis. This album could easily be on my top 25 albums of all time list. It's fun, happy and yet full of very heavy, intense jazz. The song "Mercy, Mercy, Mercy" is a must for any beginner musician (you probably played in your first school jazz band right?). I teach it to both my piano and saxophone students but actually rediscovered it for myself in the process. I love the facade of this recording too: it says that it is "Live at the IT Club" but really they just brought a bunch of their friends into the studio and gave them drinks to make it sound that way.

In 2018, jazz continued to surge into new zones, with up-and-comers like Chicago’s Makaya McCraven and London’s Nubya Garcia and Shabaka Hutchings stirring up serious street-level buzz. Meanwhile, the old guard kept right on pushing, as master musicians in their seventies and eighties - from saxophonists Wayne Shorter, Charles Lloyd and Peter Brötzmann to drummer Andrew Cyrille - turned in outstanding, challenging work
