An bouncy treatment of Oscar Hammerstein’s melancholy lyrical tribute to pre-Nazi Paris. The song was published and first recorded in 1940, it was later included in the 1941 film Lady Be Good, and it subsequently took home the Oscar for best 1941 movie song. The resulting controversy (many agreed that Blues In The Night should have won) resulted in an Academy rule change whereby all future nominated best song candidates must be composed specifically for the movies in which they are performed.
