Tape From California Lyrics. Who's that coming down the road A sailor from the sea He looks a lot like me I'd know him anywhere, had to stare. Here's what he said Sorry I can't stop and talk now I'm in kind of a hurry anyhow But I'll send you a tape from California

Greatest Hits was Phil Ochs' seventh LP and final studio album. Contrary to its title, it offered ten new tracks of material, mostly produced by Van Dyke Parks, and was released in 1970. Focusing more on country music than any other album in Ochs' canon, it featured an impressive number of musicians, including members of The Byrds and Elvis Presley's backing group alongside mainstays Lincoln Mayorga and Bob Rafkin.

But released in the middle of 1968, the most tumultuous year of the tumultuous '60s, Tape from California was often hard to listen to, because it was such a frighteningly accurate portrait of its times, eerily mirroring the point at which passionate argument over the direction of the country spilled over into violence and a widespread sense of absurdity.

Tape from California. Album: Gunfight At Carnegie Hall, 2007. Great song from a great mind and voice. So do your duty, boys, and join with prideServe your country in her suicideFind the flags so you can wave goodbyeBut just before the end even treason might be worth a tryThis country is too young to dieI declare the war is overIt's over, it's over.
