Simon & Garfunkel discography. Simon & Garfunkel, an American singer-songwriter duo, has released five studio albums, fifteen compilation albums, four live albums, one extended play, 26 singles, one soundtrack, and four box sets since 1964.
One of the pivotal '60s acts, the soundtrackers of a generation with "The Sounds of Silence," "Mrs. Robinson," and "Bridge Over Troubled Water.
Recorded for Simon & Garfunkel’s final album, The Only Living Boy in New York is, like so many of the duo’s other songs, a Paul Simon song. He wrote it as Garfunkel was leaving to shoot a movie, and the pangs of loneliness are evident from start to finish. It boasts a lovely melody, beautiful chords, and lyrics that are at once about him and about all of us ( Half of the time we’re gone but we don’t know where ), but the real draw of this one comes at around two thirds of the way through
Simon & Garfunkel were an American music duo consisting of singer-songwriters Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel. They formed the group Tom & Jerry in 1957 and had their first success with the minor hit "Hey, Schoolgirl". As Simon & Garfunkel, the duo rose to fame in 1965, largely on the strength of the hit single "The Sound of Silence". Their music was featured in the landmark film The Graduate (1967), propelling them further into the public consciousness. They are well known for their vocal harmonies and were among the most popular recording artists of the 1960s.
Simon also played a bit of xylophone that was heavily processed and added to the track. They had a lot of fun recording it and were enjoying various experiments in sound. When the Bridge Over Troubled Water album was finished, Paul Simon, Art Garfunkel and Roy Halee all thought this would be the first single, as catchy, upbeat songs were typically chosen to introduce a new album. Columbia Records president Clive Davis decided that the powerful, plaintive title track needed to be the album's calling card, so he bucked convention and released that one as the first single instead
