Narkopop 10 In the body of work of Cologne artist Wolfgang Voigt – who, like few others, has informed, shaped and influenced the world of electronic music with countless different projects since the early 1990s -, GAS stands out in particular as a saturnine sound cosmos based on heavily condensed classic sequences. Pop is the fourth album by Wolfgang Voigt's Gas project, released on 28 March 2000 on Mille Plateaux. Pop is the only Gas album to be released identically on both vinyl and compact disc

Narkopop has a symphonic majesty, a sense of form and forward movement that no prior Gas record quite reached. Voigt's forest no longer merely murmurs; it positively exults. Not only is Gas' Narkopop a top candidate for best microhouse album of 2017, it may also be the best drone album and the best classical album-and possibly just the best album you'll hear this year, period.

Narkopop is a truly immersive journey into the deepest, darkest corners of the Königsforst from which the inspiration for the project stems - sure to be one of the most life-affirming albums of 2017.

Fav tracks: narkopop 5, narkopop 6. Least fav track: narkopop 2. Gas - narkopop, 2017, kompakt, ambient techno. 2/10 that I think I like the album even more now. S. .thanks? Gonna go listen to NP right meow.

As fans might expect, Narkopop isn't a stylistic reinvention of the beloved Gas sound, but an evolution and refinement. The music remains as lush and forest-like as the artwork, but instead of the slowed-down loops of pop and classical records that made up much of the earlier recordings, which felt like never-ending soundscapes rather than songs, this one sounds more thoroughly composed. Even more so than Pop, Narkopop sounds like it could be transcribed and performed by an orchestra.

A quality album that will gain appreciation as the years go by and the filler music sinks into oblivion.

Got a replacement copy through Amazon. Both had issues, but combining the best elements between the two copies I now have a perfect vinyl/book set. The aforementioned issues included visible dimples on the vinyl which caused pops, and the art book coming unglued. Definitely buy from a place with a good return policy. It took me a while to get into this album digitally due to the mixing - you really needed to crank it to get that bass the keeps the album moving. The pressing is lush and brings out a lot that low-end depth to tracks like Narkopop 2. It was a pleasant surprise to find the vinyl mix flows seamlessly between tracks on each side like the continuous mix available digitally. This is an immersive experience. The bonus track is a satisfying epilogue.

won't say I enjoyed it. then again I didn't buy it and (GAS warriors please don't cut my ears) haven't listened to every minute of it, the constant dreary atmosphere is just a little too much for me although I'm a fan of all previous GAS albums, tracks and remixes. as absurd as it sounds coming from a regular listener of Eno's Neroli and the like, I can't find any interesting progression here, it's just the same thing going over and over again. part of me thinks that Wolfgang's got a little lazy on that one. first and last tracks are good, rest are meh. probably me getting older and denser or something (see? gas cannot be absorbed by a thicker container/substance... ta-duuh geek humor!). as with all deep albums it's a good practice to revisit it a couple of years later, who knows maybe I'll be young and unbiased sometime again

So the art book fell off within 3 minutes of opening this. Is this supposed to happen or what? Edit: distro says the art book falling off is a problem with many copies of this release, seems like Kompakt dropped the ball on this one. My copy was also missing the C/D vinyl, which is just crazy bad honestly... Anyway, getting a replacement copy. Hope I get lucky this time. Edit 2: replacement copy is solid, guess I got unlucky the first time

it's amazing how this album switches from the most unsettling, paranoia inducing soundscapes to the most soothing, unearthy experiences I've ever had with music. it almost feels as if it's trying to induce terror just to make the calm after it that more curing.

4 of these left for $53 in the sale section of the Vinyl Me, Please store. Free shipping to the USA if you're a member. Best price brand new, I've seen.

Thank you very much for the tip!! Ten words yay!

Anyone else have incessant surface noise and crackles on Sides E and F? WTF? A-D sound great

Mine is all perfect. You should contact the vendor and ask for a replacement.

First, I just want to say that this album is fantastic. It's the GAS record that didn't come out 15 years ago, just like you want it to be. Buuuuuuuuut, this release is stupid and gimmicky. The art book, like the box set, is pretty uninteresting, the printing seems kind of low quality, and the elaborateness of the packaging makes it prone to shipping damage. All this adds up to make it really expensive as well. I would have gladly paid $35/40 for a regularly housed 3xLP. I bought this, and am happy to have the album on vinyl (sounds great, good pressing), but I can't help but feel ripped off.

It is a shame! I got my copy today and it was a waste! Marks and bumps in the record surface, some graisy stuff like gravel inside the packaging. One records looked like somebody bit a piece of it !!! Nasty glued fingerprints on booklet inside. Great music, terrible production!! Shame Kompakt!!

people need to stop assuming that manufacturing defects are purely the labels fault... it is assembled at the pressing plant, not in the labels office. I'm sure if you contacted them, you get a replacement

Wasn't totally sure about this release at first, but after a few listens I'm starting to really love it. It's interesting that this is titled Narkopop, as the hypnotic and narcotic aspects of Pop are perhaps less present here - with more of a focus on individual sounds and samples rising through the wash to illicit a brief emotional reaction before sinking back into the layered depths. Narcotic in a different way perhaps, with less of a serene outlook and a darker and more paranoid atmosphere. Standouts for me are the opening 14~ minutes with Narkopop 1 & 2, unsettling and discordant at times, and Narkopop 10 - which engages in more traditional sublime GAS fare, albeit with the newer inhibited tone of the album. Overall excellent, and I would recommend it to fans and newcomers alike.

"Angelo Badalamenti’s score to Mulholland Drive seems to be a particular inspiration, and the tense crawl of Narkopop’s opening track almost has to be a direct reference to the film’s main theme."I would think that these soundscapes tend to gain negativity only if they are put into relationship with this senseless kind of odious destructivity.

Am I the only one feeling let down with this one? At times this sounds like the kind of stuff that labels release just for profit after an artist had died.

yep. you're not alone. I know that feel my cogs-bro//At least 10 words must be entered.

Nope. 17 years between drinks and I felt nothing. From Pop to fizzle.

Narkopop 3LP set is legitimately deluxe packaging and presentation. Very nice.

This is all about the looping orchestral samples. Raw, mundane, organic ambiance without gimmicks but a lot of depth. The beat is minimal, melody is non-existent. This is not a music to listen to. This is music let oneself dissolve into. Merging into it, diving deeper into all those microscopic details, discovering new dimensions inside other, free falling into ever expanding void. Floating in the ether of sensations, where the echoes of distant sounds gradually takes a form of a dream. The music transforms into something you explore with all your senses. You literally feel it's warmth. It will start making sense, if you are relaxed and willing to accept it's spell. It works best lying on bed and closing your eyes. This is not apparent on the surface. It's not some supernatural aspect radiating outside. You truly need to dedicate yourself for this journey to unlock the potential. Just check it on the surface, and you'll find it boring, rest assured. But if you are new to this type of music, want to understand it and believe, you may truly discover something from this music you never felt before. This may sound pretentious, but it's something I have personally experienced. It was GAS whose discography really got me into ambient. I admit I also found it boring first, but decided to play it before bed, and experienced something that got me hooked since then.5/5, perfect continuum for the Gas series after almost 20 years.

...by the way: record of the year...????maybe record of the century...

lol what makes you think so? --10 words 10 words 10 words 10 words --

Of the century! ? ! ? ! ? ! ?
