The album that carried reggae music to the four corners of the Earth and made Bob Marley an international superstar also set the political tone for many artists to follow. Marley sang of life where the living is hardest in Concrete Jungle and looked back to Jamaica’s ignoble slaving past – No chains around my feet but I’m not free. There are tracks that drip with sex, and love songs like Adore, which remains one of the greatest of all time. But Hill’s reggae influences are what drive the album’s spirit: preaching love and peace but also speaking out against unrighteous oppression. Even today, it’s one of the most uplifting and inspiring records around. RO. 26/40 Histoire de Melody Nelson (1971), Serge Gainsbourg.

The album, which has been inspired by Bryan’s work on the Sky Atlantic/Netflix television series ‘Babylon Berlin’ (a German period drama based on the books by Volker Kutscher set in the 1920s), takes the musical stylings from that era and puts a new twist on well loved Roxy Music and Bryan Ferry tracks including ‘While My Heart is. Still Beating’, ‘Sign of the Times’, ‘Bitter Sweet’ and ‘Dance Away’. Whereas Ferry’s previous album in this genre The Jazz Age consisted of instrumentals, Bitter-Sweet includes 8 vocal tracks.

The Sweet was a compilation album released as Sweet's debut album in the US and Canada, substituting for the 1971 UK album Funny How Sweet Co-Co Can Be. (The band's second album, Sweet Fanny Adams was also not given a US release, but tracks from that and the band's third album Desolation Boulevard were combined on the US version of that album to compensate for this.
