His 1979 album Prince went platinum, and his next three albums-Dirty Mind (1980), Controversy (1981), and 1999 (1982)-continued his success, showcasing his prominently explicit lyrics and blending of funk, dance, and rock music. In 1984, he began referring to his backup band as The Revolution and released Purple Rain, the soundtrack album to his film debut. In 1980, Prince released the album Dirty Mind, which contained sexually explicit material, including the title song, "Head", and the song "Sister", and was described by Stephen Thomas Erlewine as a "stunning, audacious amalgam of funk, new wave, R&B, and pop, fueled by grinningly salacious sex and the desire to shock. Recorded in Prince's own studio, this album. The Wall Street Journal. Archived from the original on April 22, 2016. Retrieved April 22, 2016.

The third album by Jack and Meg White was the right dynamite for a mainstream breakthrough. Jack’s Delta-roadhouse fantasies, Detroit-garage-rock razzle and busted-love lyricism, as well as Meg’s toy-thunder drumming all peaked at once. 496. Boz Scaggs, ‘Boz Scaggs’.

This was Prince’s final Warner Bros. album under his birth name; weary of his label’s constantly pumping the brakes on his release schedule, pushed to the brink by its cancellation of a distribution deal with Paisley Park Records, he raided his vault for Come. Just 18 when he started recording the album, Prince constructed entrance and exit signs with uncanny prescience. For You is 68 seconds of gobsmacked a cappella harmonies, devotional and harrowing, built from his full vocal range. If we’re taking in the big picture (which we probably do too much, but whatever), 1987 was a transitional year. New jack swing was still on the horizon. Eric B. and Rakim were just now ringing in hip-hop’s Golden Age.

from guide2prince:Don’t even bother with this lame ass release. All the tracks worth having are on better outake releases. The remix of Gett Off is a dumb DJ remix and the faked track Hot Sauce is lame lame lame. The jazzstyle remix of ‘Gett off’ may be a fan mix; if soit’s a good one as it compares very well with the official mixes. The ‘For love’remix is official but not the same as the one released on 12″. ‘Hot sauce’was recorded prior to Clinton’s signing to Paisley Park. Thomas Dolby is involved but not Prince. Everything else here is on various volumes of Thework in better sound.

Very bad sound quality (mostly sourced from poor cassette recordings). I Wonder is slowed down by at least half its original speed, ruining it. The title track in particular is pretty much unlistenable (naming your bootleg after the worst quality recording - good job, guys). Rockhard In A Funky Place is slowed down also. This is a shame, as the tracklisting would have made for quite a nice collection. To make things worse, one of the tracks isn’t even Prince! Not worth getting unless for collection purposes, there are better quality versions available. I got this for £8 around this time last year, at the height of Prince price gouging - that alone should tell you how worthless it is!Edit: Just noticed in the sales history that some poor sap paid £44.99 for it at around the same time... ouch
