Opus/Catalogue Number O. Cat. No. O. 4 ; TH 30 ; ČW 27. I-Catalogue Number I-Cat. Also arranged for piano 4 hands by Tchaikovsky, 1893 It has become tradition in this Symphony for the 2nd clarinet to double on bass clarinet and play 4 notes for the bassoon, at a point where the bassoon takes over a descending line from the clarinet. Apart from the fact that the "hand over" is smoother when the timbres match, the passage goes to pppppp, which is easier on bass clarinet than on bassoon. Symphonies by Pyotr Tchaikovsky. The Symphony No. 6 in B minor, Op. 74, also known as the Pathétique Symphony, is Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky's final completed symphony, written between February and the end of August 1893. The composer entitled the work "The Passionate Symphony", employing a Russian word, Патетическая (Pateticheskaya), meaning "passionate" or "emotional", that was then (mis-)translated into French as pathétique, meaning "solemn" or "emotive".
Symphony no. 6 "Pathétique". Tchaikovsky; Berliner Philharmoniker, Herbert von Karajan. Characteristic Dance. Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky. 6 Songs, Op. 6: No. 6. None But The Lonely Heart (arr. for piano). Act IV: Scene: Allegro agitato.
The symphony was written in a small house in Klin, 50 miles northwest of Moscow, and completed by the end of August 1893. Writing to his nephew again Tchaikovsky said, "I consider the Symphony the best thing I've ever done. Tchaikovsky's brother, Modest, had wanted to call the work "Magic" but the Russian composer more modestly prompted for "Pateticheskaya", a Russian word meaning "passionate" or "emotional. Tchaikovsky conducted the first performance of this symphony, which was dedicated to his nephew, in St. Petersburg, on October 8, 1893. It was not well received. The premiere was held just nine days before the Russian composer's sudden and unexpected death. Album Cover InspirationsSong Writing. Some album art was at least "inspired" by others.
