Orchestra of the Academy of London. Sir John's royalties for this recording were donated to The League of Friends of Charity Heritage, a facility for physically handicapped children. Prokofiev performed the piano version of Peter and the Wolf for "le papa de Mickey Mouse", as Prokofiev described him in a letter to his sons. Disney was impressed, and considered adding an animated version of Peter and the Wolf to Fantasia, which was to be released in 1940. Peter daydreams of hunting and catching the wolf, and for that purpose exits the garden carrying a wooden pop gun. At the end, in a reversal of the original (and to make the story more child-friendly), the narrator reveals that the duck Sonia has not been eaten by the wolf.

Richard Stamp leads the London Academy in completely acceptable and on occasion even elegant performances. Nor is this to say that John Gielgud is not a rich, plumy, and slightly ironic narrator or that the duo piano team of Anton Nel and Keith Snell is not light, tight, and dazzlingly bright: they all are in their own ways
