Synchestra (/sɪŋˈkɛstrə/ sing-KES-trə) is the eighth solo album by Canadian musician Devin Townsend, and the second and final album he recorded with The Devin Townsend Band. The album was released in January 2006 on Townsend's label, HevyDevy Records. After releasing four solo albums under the name Devin Townsend, each with a different recording lineup, Townsend decided in 2002 to assemble a permanent band for his solo material.

Devin Garrett Townsend (born May 5, 1972) is a Canadian musician, songwriter and record producer. He founded extreme metal band Strapping Young Lad and was its primary songwriter, vocalist, and guitarist from 1994 to 2007, and has an extensive career as a solo artist. After performing in a number of heavy metal bands in high school, Townsend was discovered by a record label in 1993 and asked to perform lead vocals on Steve Vai's album Sex & Religion

The Devin Townsend Band-Accelerated Evolution. Members: Devin Townsend-Guitars, Vocals, Ambience Ryan Mike Young-Bass Brian Waddell-Guitar Dave Young-Keyboards. Accelerated Evolution is the prequel to Synchestra. Though it is by the same band, it feels very different. You will not find polka on here. This is not to say it is not original or fanastic, because it is every bit the listen as Synchestra, just in different ways. I feel the album merits it. Depth Charge- A kick tush opener.

Accelerated Evolution' was the first album to be released under the banner of The Devin Townsend Band. Rather than marking a mere cosmetic change, however, in comparison with its immediate predecessor 'Terria', this album does sound much more like the work of a full band. Devin Townsend is an eccentric fellow, playing in many styles of band from the ambient (his self-titled solo projects) to the hard rockin' Wildhearts back to Strapping Young Lad. He is renowned for his ridiculous and meticulous style of stacking guitars and vocals together to create a "wall of sound" that is a powerhouse of distortion, as well as his ridiculous amount of vocal range and versatility ranging from a caustic shriek attacking society and stupidity to his trademark thrashy yells, and then a brilliant falsetto clean that completely betrays his look.

Recorded at The Armoury, Merchland, and Hipposonic studios Sept-Nov 2002. Bonus CD: Project EKO (demo material 2002). Dev uses: ESP guitars, Fender guitars, Carvin Legacy (SV!), Peavy 5150 Heads (EVH!), Roland guitar processors, Stephenson amps and splitters, D'addario 10-52, Seymour Duncan, Caparison, Morley Bad Horsie, Nuendo. Dedicated to the memory of "Yuki" (1989-2002). Distributed by SPV GmbH.

I find it amazing when a metal album is able to convey as much aesthetic as this one does. The one thing that I do like about this album over his album Deconstruction is the use of a real drummer. Having real drums definitely adds more emotion and a more natural feel. I would definitely recommend this album for your collection.
