Karma (Pharoah Sanders album). Karma is a 1969 jazz recording by the American tenor saxophonist Pharoah Sanders. The social and political upheavals of the 1960s have been cited as a major factor in the emergence of a new stylistic trend in jazz, with a very different emphasis to the forms of the music which emerged earlier.
Pharoah Sanders' third album as a leader is the one that defines him as a musician to the present day. After the death of Coltrane, while there were many seeking to make a spiritual music that encompassed his ideas and yearnings while moving forward, no one came up with the goods until Sanders on this 1969 date. There are only two tracks on Karma, the 32-plus minute "The Creator Has a Master Plan" and the te "Colours
Pharoah Sanders (born Farrell Sanders, October 13, 1940) is an American jazz saxophonist. Saxophonist Ornette Coleman once described him as "probably the best tenor player in the world". Emerging from John Coltrane's groups of the mid-1960s, Sanders is known for his overblowing, harmonic, and multiphonic techniques on the saxophone, as well as his use of "sheets of sound"

Listen free to Pharoah Sanders – Karma (The Creator Has A Master Plan, Colors). John Coltrane left behind a legacy of experimental and extremely spiritual work whose timeless quality still reverberates today. After his untimely death many poseurs came out to stake their claim as the next Coltrane. Many tried and many failed. Then in 1969 a former sideman of Coltrane's, Pharoah Sanders, stepped out from the shadow of his mentor and recorded Karma, which bore the soul of Coltrane's musical and spiritual passion
Genre: Avant-Garde Jazz. Having gotten his nickname by playing his tenor-sax with Sun Ra and John Coltrane, Pharoah Sanders is probably the avatar of spiritual jazz after his mentors, of course. On his first few solo records, the artist fully indulged into that same fearless, striking eagerness for experimentation within the broad jazz spectrum, and he did really well on that, specially on his first two releases. Still, it was with Karma that the fantastic instrumentalist reached an even higher plane of artistic vision.
