My Side Of Town ‎(LP, Album, Ltd, Whi). Chapter Eleven Records, Longshot Music, Contra Records. CH24, LS12149, CR158. Sonoma keeps punk fresh with the energetic Roadside Bombs keeping up the tradition. The Roadside Bombs are on to something and this is record represents that. I feel a few of the songs could have been a little more punchy or maybe just half a beat faster and "Not Everybody Knows A Good Thing" was stepping on a land mine. For the record as a whole those thing did not ultimately matter.

Shliffiana
I was born and bred on the west coast. I loved the hardcore out of California in the 80's, I loved a lot of the Oi! out L.A. in The 90's, The street punk out of San Francisco in the late 90's and early 2000's was catchy and started a trend that blew up nationwide. What else I loved was the bands that had the Sonoma sound or the Hostage Records sound. Bands like The Bodies, The Muggers, The Shifters, The Cadavers, Discontent, Smogtown, The Numbers, and The Randumbs. Just to name a few. These bands throbbed with the energy of early punk and the danger of a speed freak looking for his next high. Unpredictable catchy, and energetic with just enough scary to keep the masses away. Perfect if you ask me. So that leads me to The Roadside Bombs. These guys are the next in line for these bands. They bring that energy mix it with street punk touches of UK punk and bam that is the sound of The Roadside Bombs. These guys mix in more melody, were The Bodies or The Randumbs. may speed up or spit lyrics like seizure. The Roadside Bombs use some nice melodic guitars and Ben can really sing. "Angry People" shows the band at a high point. Musically the band surges with that Sonoma energy with guitars that have a throwback sound. The singer is on point. lyrical nails delivered in a catchy slightly snotty voice. "Bring 'Em Home" was on their single from 2011 and is still as good as it was back then. A punker with a streetwise feel and a blue collar attitude. The bands roots are on display on their cover of The Bodies classic " Down The Beach ". This song still puts a smile on my face. Also on their 2011 single was the Smogtown and maybe a little Johnny Thunders inspired "My Side of Town" is a tight street rocker with the singer giving the song a tough sneer in his delivery. Chants of hey at the end of the chorus just adds to the sleazy glam feel of the song. The guitar rips it up at the end of the song just for the cherry on top. Wow when the band makes a miss step they really make it a big one. That miss step for me is "Not Everybody Knows A Good Thing". The sugary, poppy factor takes over the song. The singer stretches his voice on every line. The backing chorus sound just like every pop punk band. The song to me me sounds like MXPX and that is not a good thing! The band has packed the record with solid lyrics and the street wiser rocker "Someone To Hurt" has stand out lyrics about violence in your mind. "That's when I want someone to hurt that why I don't carry a gun" is a great line that works in the chorus. I have to give to these guys they take one of my least favorite Pogues songs and turn it in to a stand out song on this album. "Sunny Side Of The Street" is one of the best improved covers I have heard in a while. They keep the poetry of the lyrics and give the song the sonic punch it needed. Fucking great job! The record is packed with power, catchy songs, Great lyrics, and that sound!
