MOZART Violin Sonatas – Tetzlaff. Sonata for Keyboard and Violin No. 32. 27. 35. Selected comparisons. The tragedy is perhaps more restrained in the new version, Tetzlaff’s tone warmer a degree or two than Steinberg’s, though the way he uses vibrato for expressive effect is compelling. The reading of the earlier K379 is just as thoughtful, the opening movement achieving a more ethereal quality than Podger and Cooper, Vogt arguably the more imaginative keyboard player. It’s the hyper-reactivity between the two players that is a constant delight, as witness their subtle way of varying repeats.

In the Allegro opening the D-major Sonata K. 306 - from Mozart’s first mature set of violin sonatas written in 1778 during the author’s disappointing and depressing trip to Paris - Szigeti’s playing in the fast and grand opening Allegro shows persistent sloppiness in the passagework. There are notes that are not precisely in tune in just about every passage. And this oppotunity to celebrate another additional anniversary of his birthday the ocassion is pleasant to recommend without reserves this anthological album. In the whole musical story you will never find such status level as in this collection. Verve, perfect intonation, superb nuance, passionate charm and flwless articulation are conjugated in every one of these Sonatas. The second choice, but miles away would be Artur Grumiaux, but Siget& s scope certainly establishes a very spaced difference.
