The Wildhearts are an English rock group, formed in 1989 in Newcastle upon Tyne. The band's sound is a mixture of hard rock and melodic pop music, often described in the music press as combining influences as diverse as The Beatles and 1980s-era Metallica. However, this characterization is denied by the band, who see their influences as being far broader, as shown in the song "29 X The Pain", which lists many of group leader Ginger's influences

Chutzpah! is truly one of the finest British rock records released since the turn of the century and will rank up with the best albums The Wildhearts have ever produced, if not being their slightly odd ball, ‘white-album’esq pinnacle. There is definitely more to come from this band, who seem, after twenty-one years, to be better and more creative than ever.

This album would not be a bad introduction to the band if you've never heard them before. Though "Earth Vs" needs to be heard as well. Just for reference, I also dig Def Leppard, Iron Maiden, Metallica and Megadeth. The Wildhearts do not sound like any of these bands (except for maybe a touch of Def Lep's harmony and Metallica's chug) but do fit in nicely with them if you're looking for some variety. After satisfying their cover band urges with 2008's Stop Us if You Think That You've Heard This One Before, Vol. 1, the Wildhearts rekindled their own wonderfully eclectic songwriting ways on the following year's purposefully named Chutzpah, the group's eighth studio album.
