Oh, Inverted World is the debut studio album by American indie rock band The Shins, released on June 19, 2001 to critical acclaim. Omnibus Records put out an initial run of vinyl distributed by Darla. Sub Pop Records reprinted the vinyl, but the Sub Pop logo only appears on later pressings. The album contains the songs "Caring Is Creepy" and "New Slang," both of which appeared in the 2004 film Garden State.

The Shins' first full-length is a definitive indie rock album of the 2000s not just because of its thoughtful, tuneful songs, but also because of the vivid portrait it painted of indie culture. After the high irony of Pavement and other '90s standard bearers, indie rock began moving into more emotionally forthright territory. Oh, Inverted World is the sound of realizing there's more to life than being a smart-aleck - but also not being ready to open up completely.

But, oh, they were wrong, and by the time actor Zach Braff directed his debut film, Garden State, in 2004 using two Inverted World tracks alongside tunes by Simon and Garfunkel, Nick Drake, and Iron and Wine, the naysayers had yelped uncle. It was clear the band had stumbled on a masterful process of music-making, cloaking folk-pop arrangements in a gauzy blanket of melancholy, using simple musical accents like a sublimely simple guitar note or an unhurried tambourine - surrounded by plenty of space - to keep it all buoyant and airborne. The band smartly sequenced New Slang smack in the middle of everything, making it by default the album’s centerpiece, with its effortless, breezy and somewhat mysterious essence that reveals itself a bit more with each listen. If that was the intent with the whole collection, the Shins are definitely smarter than your average group of pop musicians.

The original Omnibus LP of "Oh, Inverted World" is a different mastering to the common Sub Pop LP, but it is in no way superior. The content is identical, but the cutting is very bass-shy and a bit sibilant and distorted. A great collector piece but stick to your standard edition for listening.

Any info on a UK pressing from march 2018 on green/mint vinyl? It was limited to 1000
