Many women take diet pills to help increase their weight loss or maintain the losses they’ve already achieved. Women looking to lose weight have the additional challenge of a hormonal profile that’s tilted towards keeping more fat mass on their body. There are a lot of different diet pills for women, and they don’t all have the same efficacy. Many of them don’t work at all. We’ve looked at the best and most effective diet pills for women and ranked them.
While diet pills aren’t inherently ‘dangerous’, consuming too much may come with some side-effects. Electrolyte imbalances from the excess of sodium included in ketone salts (a type of pill). Very high blood levels of ketones can be toxic by inducing acidosis and altering oxygen binding capacity. As the keto diet is all the rage right now, more companies are coming out with shortcuts to get our bodies into ketosis. While BHB pills and powders can indeed put you into ketosis quickly and deeply, they are no substitute for the benefits of a well-formulated diet plan or an appropriate fast. Keto pills are useless and even possibly counterproductive when trying to lose fat. This is true despite their promising potential in sports supplementation or even in managing certain medical conditions responding to ketones.
All diet pills have adverse side effects, and for a physician to recommend their use, the risk from the side effects have to be outweighed by the benefits of the possible weight loss. The only diet pill currently approved by the FDA for long term use is orlistat, which prevents the body from absorbing fat in the diet. Another common drug is sibutramine, which suppresses appetite. One of the newer appetite suppressants is rimonabant. Metformin, which affects sugar uptake in the liver, is often found to be safe and effective in obese patients with diabetes mellitus
Most diet pills recommend two daily doses. It is advised to take the doses earlier in the day to avoid sleep disruption, with the last dose taken at least 4 hours prior to bedtime. Instructions may vary from product to product, though, so make sure you read the label carefully. Some diet pills are predominantly stimulant based. Others have ingredients. Some have a blend of both.
Diet pills aim to help people curb their hunger and thus lose weight. However, they may have a placebo effect. This means that the patient's belief in the pill's power is sufficient to bring desirable results
