Koloss is the seventh album by Swedish metal band Meshuggah, released on 23 March 2012 in Germany, on 26 March in the rest of Europe, and on March 27 in North America, by Nuclear Blast. Kory Grow of Spin Magazine called it "the first real contender for the genre's album of the year"

Meshuggah’s latest album (released in March 2012) entitled Koloss comes with a fabulous symmetric 3D-cover artwork. I think I don’t have to introduce the mighty Meshuggah again (have a look at an earlier Symmetal post about Meshuggah: Symmetrah) but this new release is worth a new post. I know that Symmetal is all about the visuals but I have to say that I love the new record. The artwork is named Gateman and was created by Luminokaya who spent nine months developing the piece.
Data wpisu 26 Marzec 2012. Wydawcy Nuclear Blast. Nagrany w Fear and Loathing. This new album proves that the progressive and technical heaviness that Meshuggah has always drawn out since day one has not faded after about 25 long years. Compared to the rest of the band’s discography, Koloss is what you would expect from a Meshuggah record, but even better. Like the others, this album is loaded with plenty of steadily-paced yet explosive punches up its sleeves. Unrelentingly heavy guitar riffs and punchy polyrhythmic drums thrive in Koloss, along with the abrasive vocal screams of Jens Kidman.
Koloss is a strange beast. It comes from Meshuggah, a band that, for as skilled and mind bending as they are, have basically released the same album over and over again since 1995's Destroy Erase Improve, yet it sounds unlike any Meshuggah album I have ever heard. Yes, the sound is unmistakably that of the Swedish tech-groove heavyweights, but where they have gone from sounding like the cold and mechanical gears that run our lives to, well, sounding even more like cold mechanical musical mechanisms, Koloss is unique in that it feels as though it has room to breathe. Koloss is the perfect next step for Meshuggah.
Meshuggah's 2012 album Koloss. Well, what can I say? It's Meshuggah. Koloss is the Swedish experimentalists’ eighth full-length album. This is clearly still a Meshuggah album, after all, so it still doesn’t feel natural to our human sensibilities. Organic, yes, but alien.
