Fritz KreislerComposer. Marguerite (Albumblatt; transcr. of work by Rachmaninov). Genre: Other Chamber Pr. Instrument: Violin.

A Fritz Kreisler recording can always be recognized by the violinist's beefy, baritonal sonority, inimitable portamento, and communicative warmth. Most of the repertoire here consists of the short, encore pieces that prevailed in the era of 78rpm records, many penned or arranged by Kreisler, who was always on the lookout for memorable tunes.

Violinist Fritz Kreisler was one of the most beloved and best known of early recording era musicians. His burnished tone and patrician phrasing were quintessentially Viennese, and the warmth of his playing won him devoted followers wherever he appeared. Kreisler was the son of a famous surgeon, a good amateur musician who gave young Fritz his first violin lessons. Kreisler made his public debut at seven in a collection of short works. Shortly thereafter, he was permitted to enter the Vienna Conservatory despite a policy that no one younger than 14 be accepted.

When Fritz Kreisler made his first London recordings towards the end of 1911, he was already wildly popular in Britain. Title: Complete Recordings Vo. TITLE: Julian Olevsky - Puttin’ On The Fritz: An Album of Fritz Kreisler Encores. Wolfgang Rose, piano. COMPOSER: Fritz Kreisler.
