Allan Holdsworth has quite an impressive resume. The funny thing is that even if he didn't this album/ep would more than make-up for any lack of plausible credentials. In short Allan Holdsworth-arguably the most important guitar player since Hendrix-has successfully adapted the playing of John Coltrane to guitar while simultaneously updating the jazz/rock and fusion genre. Road Games is a blistering cacophony of raunchy 3 and 4 note-per string excursions channeled through some incredibly gorgeous tones.

Allan Holdsworth’s first official solo album was issued in 1981 entitled . It was actually the name of the band that was under his direction as a bandleader at the time,. An EP entitled Road Games was released in 1983. The spectacular Metal Fatigue was issued in 1985. The following year in 1986, Allan Holdsworth released the Atavachron album. His fifth studio album entitled Sand was released in 1987. Allan Holdsworth continued his heavy 1980’s output of material with the release of the Secrets album in 1989 at the close of the decade
