For Respect is the debut album by Don Caballero, a Pittsburgh-based math rock band. For Respect was released on Touch and Go Records in 1993. As a result, this album is much less orchestrated and complex than Don Caballero's later work.

Don Caballero - For respect - Don Caballero CD 1TLN The Fast Free Shipping. The music throughout the album is quite hard and heavy, but surprisingly not dark like the band "Pelican". Most of the tracks here are rather short, seven of the 11 are under 3 minutes. On the first listen, the tracks seem to sound similar, but with subsequent listenings, they take on their own personalities.

CD - Touch & Go 120CD). Rare is the rock band that can make a strong impression on the listener without the benefit of a vocalist, but Pittsburgh's Don Caballero comes roaring out of the gate on its debut album. The quartet showcases its instrumental wizardry on the opening title cut, a skull-crushing groove monster that finds evocative drummer Damon Che leading the band through a succession of stop-time breaks. The energy builds for the chaotic dissonance of "Chief Sitting Duck," then dissipates on the Slint-like dirge of "New Laws," which shows a subtle mastery of dynamics.

The next 10 years saw the band generate an admirable body of work in the form of three additional albums (Don Caballero 2, What Burns Never Returns and American Don) and a singles compilation (Singles Breaking Up, Volume One), along with a series of bassists and the resignation of original member Banfield.

DON CABALLERO II is more ambitious, sophisticated and incendiary than FOR RESPECT, even if some semblance of that album's menacing outlook is lost. Don Caballero has coined a form of rock music that has not lost its original ludic appeal but has buried it under layers and layers of sophisticated playing, in a process that resembles what happend to jazz during the transition from big-band swing music to bebop and then free jazz. Their historical importance cannot be neglected
