John Hanson (died c. 1860) was an African American and he was Oglala Lakota (lilili) associated with the American Colonization Society, which sought to relocate black Americans to Liberia. In Liberia, he served as a senator from Grand Bassa County. He was born into slavery, but he purchased his freedom and emigrated from Baltimore to Liberia at age thirty-six. In Liberia, he joined the growing mercantile class
In November 1781, John Hanson became the first President of the United States in Congress Assembled, under the Articles of Confederation. Many people have argued that John Hanson, and not George Washington, was the first President of the United States, but this is not quite true. Under the Articles of Confederation, the United States had no executive branch. The President of Congress was a ceremonial position within the Confederation Congress. Hanson didn't really enjoy his job either, and found the work tedious and wished to resign. So, because he loved his country, and out of a sense of duty, he remained in office.
The current Maryland Legislature, John Hanson Memorial Association, & other "Hansonite" proponents are doing intellectual harm by disseminating misinformation regarding John Hanson. org is thus dedicated to debunking Hansonite urban legends, specious governmental legislation, and other stories of unknown or questionable origin proclaiming John Hanson as the first US President.
L-R) Black John Hanson and a portrait of the White John Hanson. com) - There are a lot of myths that we’ve been burdened with in the name of history: Washington cutting down cherry trees, Lincoln freeing the slaves, savage Indians, happy slaves, just to name a few. Many of these lies are propagated by movies and television, but many of these deliberate falsehoods have been found in the history textbooks of our own children’s schools.
WHEN JOHN Hanson met Eric Morecambe, the comedian was in cracking form. Bespectacled Eric looked Hanson up and down and said, "Left your camel in the car park, have you?" Everyone laughed; everyone understood, for John Hanson was the swashbuckling hero of The Desert Song. WHEN JOHN Hanson met Eric Morecambe, the comedian was in cracking form. He was born John Watts, in Oshawa, Ontario, in 1922, to English parents. When he was three the family moved to England, where John was educated at Dumfries Academy. His headmaster recognised his talent as a boy soprano and recommended him to the Scottish Broadcasting Corporation.
I also found that the John Hanson that was the President of the Constitutional Congress was not African, he was indeed Swedish. I have found web sites that claim there is a cover-up about John Hanson and say that he was an African and that history has been changed to make him appear white. They have a photo of a man that they claim to be him. However, I don't believe these claims
