Fishing For Fishies is King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard’s return after a year-long hiatus following their prolific output in 2017, where they released five studio albums in the space of just over ten months. In the lead-up to the album, it has been touted as a collection of blues-infused, psychedelic boogie songs (a third of the songs have boogie in their name). We tried to make a blues record. A -kinda-thing, but the songs kept fighting it, or maybe it was us fighting them. Ultimately though we let the songs guide us this time; we let them have their own personalities. Fishing for Fishies Q&A.

Fishing for fishies Don't make them feel happy Or me neither I feel so sorry for fishies. Don't matter to kiss and Put back, poor fishies should be free. The album’s title-track Fishing For Fishies is an upbeat country/blues song taken from the point of view of someone who feels sorry for fish and doesn’t find fishing necessarily fun. Ironically, some of the song’s lyrics mention feeling hungry, and in the music video, singer Stu Mackenzie is still actively fishing while singing about feeling sorry for it.

Fishing for Fishies is the fourteenth studio album by Australian psychedelic rock band King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard. It was released on 26 April 2019 by Flightless Records and ATO Records. The announcement of the album was accompanied by the release of the title track and its video.

For the real brain-bending stuff though, it’s prolific genre mashers King Gizzard And The Lizard Wizard who sit at the really wild end of the spectrum. Over the last nine years, the Melbourne septet have shown that there’s no genre they won’t dip their toes into. But in 2017, they pulled off a feat ambitious even for them, releasing five – yes, five – albums within 12 months that nailed custom-made psychedelia, nightmarish metal, elevator jazz and wacko prog. There’s a sense of looseness on this offering following the hectic pace of 2017’s relentless experimentation. Boogieman Sam’ and ‘The Cruel Millennial’ are thick and fuzzy dollops of T Rex psych blues, and the swaggering ‘This Thing’ revels in a ’70s-inspired groove so deep Marc Bolan would need a ladder to climb out.

My copy came without any warp like others mentioned, very little surface noise but hardly noticeable. The material on this album is all great. I really enjoy all the Harmonica from Ambrose on the album. The A side has a lot of blues themes and side B starts to lean harder into their psychedelic sounds. The whole album is great but i particularly enjoy Plastic Boogie, This Thing, and Acarine. I'll definitely be spinning this a lot, Can't wait for more these guys.

My Empire Polo Edition showed up in great shape, no warp. Plays with little to no surface noise and gets plenty loud on my Harman Kardon setup which is nothing special. The album itself, musically, is great! I like the themes repeated throughout the album and will surely enjoy it more with each listen. Boogieman Sam is a scorcher!

The fact that most of the discussion here is about the colour of the vinyl, as opposed to it being a not particularly great album says quite a lot.

Swift Summer
I agree, was not even in the mood to listen to the album until now online, my records will still be at the customs now I think. Only like Acarine a bit, otherwise perhaps it´s a bit harsh to say, but they should leave the boogie to Canned Heat and glam to T.Rex aso aso... Sorry to say, but roundabout by far their weakest album imho. Still hope, that they change the direction again, did see them live last year in Hamburg and they were great. Ok, everybody has his own taste, as we in Germany say: Jedem Tierchen sein Pläsierchen!

I thought this album was one of the best yet. Throw this on with some friends, get drunk, roll some dice and quit your bitchin. Actually, don’t do that... you don’t deserve the gizzard with a comment like that mr. snobby face.

I thought it was a great album to be honest.
