have been introduced as a savior of sorts with a zippy hook: "African TV on the Radio. That's a fool's game and that much was clear the minute the swirl started. So they will be judged (probably not all that well) against the strains of expectation. But that's too bad because After Robots, produced by the Secret Machines' Brandon Curtis, is a hugely ambitious album, with swooping forays into kwaito, ska, reggae, ambience, jazz, prog, and furor

After Robots reveals BLK JKS as a group who deal in soundscapes rather than songs, one for complete immersion and not casual spins. Their sound pays little mind to conventional band roles, with Tshepang Ramoba's multifarious percussion often taking the lead while the two guitars duelling around and above the rhythm section. Listeners with the patience to penetrate After Robots' dense exterior, then, will find an accomplished debut album that stays just about on the right side of difficult.

BLK JKS are definitely an interesting new band, drawing attention to a country that isn’t famous for its great rock music. After Robots is cool in every sense of the word, but don’t be surprised if you end up getting a little bored with it. As much influence as the band brings to the table, they manage to do about the same thing with all of that influence on each track, making for a record that starts off awesome and ends just okay

After Robots is the first full-length album by the South African indie rock band BLK JKS. It was released on September 8, 2009 on the Secretly Canadian label.
