Charles & Eddie were an American soul music duo composed of Charles Pettigrew and Eddie Chacon. They are primarily known for their single "Would I Lie to You?", taken from their 1992 debut album, Duophonic. The song won Ivor Novello Awards in 1993 in the Best Contemporary Song, Best Selling Song and International Hit of the Year categories. Pettigrew and Chacon were rumored to have met on the New York City Subway in 1990.

For the album by Charles and Eddie, see Duophonic (album). For duophonic synthesis, see Polyphony and monophony in instruments § Duophonic. In this process monaural recordings were reprocessed into a type of artificial stereo. Generically, the sound is commonly known as fake stereo or mock stereo.

Though some would call them a one hit wonder, I think this debut album is outstanding. In addition to the mesmerizing hit, the song just before it "Can you believe this City?" clearly points to their roots.

Duophonic is the debut album by American vocal duo Charles & Eddie, released in 1992. The album has influences of "classic Northern soul of the '60s and '70s", and includes the worldwide smash hit "Would I Lie to You?" along with two further singles: "NYC (Can You Believe This City?)" and "House Is Not a Home"

Duophonic, however, isn't hardcore soul, and no one will mistake this release for a Temptations album from 1970. Rather, Charles & Eddie show their appreciation of classic soul in a very pop-friendly way, and the obvious comparisons include Simply Red, Terence Trent d'Arby, and Culture Club
