Redirected from The Crack (album)). The Crack is The Ruts first album, released in 1979 and containing the UK hit singles: "Babylon's Burning" (Number seven on the UK chart in June 1979) and "Something That I Said" (No. 29 in September 1979). The white-reggae "Jah War", which was written in the aftermath of the Southall unrest and the over-use of force by the Metropolitan Police Service's Special Patrol Group in 1979, was also released as a single but didn't make the UK chart.

Thus, The Crack was one blindingly original album, far removed from its contemporaries. At the core, the quartet's sound was based primarily on '70s rock, played fast and hard, bringing them into the sphere of the street punks, an evolving genre later tagged Oi!, and eventually mutating into both speed metal and hardcore. The album features a clutch of headbanging pogo-til-you-puke blasts of fury, anthemic shout-alongs one and all. But the Ruts were capable of much more than simplistic punk-rockers in a metal mode

Album Name The Crack. 12. Human Punk (live at The Marquee, London, 19 July 1979). 13. Give Youth A Chance - CD Bonus Track. 14. I Ain't Sofisticated - CD Bonus track. 15. The Crack - CD Bonus Track.

On back cover : Human Punk recorded live at The Marquee, 19th July 1979. Thanks to the roadies: Mannah, Long Bob Kelly, Long Chris Kelly. Distribué par Polydor Imprimé et fabriqué en France.

Urgent and driving, The Ruts’ debut album, ‘The Crack’, was an impressively diverse offering merging reggae influences and politically charged anthems. Published on. January 25, 2019. Listen to The Crack right now. To the wider public, The Ruts appeared to have materialised from the ether, but in reality they were a band with a colourful past. Ironically, guitarist Paul Fox and charismatic vocalist Malcolm Owen first met in a hippie commune on the Welsh isle of Anglesey, during the early 70s. Drummer Dave Ruffy, meanwhile, learned his craft playing in an East End ska/rocksteady outfit, The Star-Keys, while still in his teens, and he loved reggae, as did The Ruts’ bassist, John Segs Jennings. We all had eclectic tastes

Danial
Cannot BELIEVE they didn't include a LYRIC sheet with this edition..!

Felolv
This edition includes an MP3 Download card for the UK (EU) Release.

Nikobar
this is a really nice 180g picture disc of this punk/reggae classic, this comes housed in a cut out sleeve as you can see and has the original lp artwork on the back of the sleeve, this was one of the best punk records to come out in the uk back in 1979, cant belive this is 40 years old this year, i bought the 45 ( something that i said) uk 45 way back in the early 80s and im not really a reggae guy but i love the B side to that single give youth a chance............love the ruts to this day, rip malcom owen sadly the real ruts only lasted but two years prior to his death................................................... great pd

Meztihn
A very bored looking John Lydon also appears on sleeve...my copy also has the 'Ruts - 3.99' sticker

Shadowbourne
I find entering new releases rather time consuming so I will just say here that I have a Japanese pressing from 1980.

Ungall
My copy doesn't have anything unique on the matrix runout -- just "V2132-A* 7078-700" on the A-side and "V2132-B* 7079-700" on the other. The label does say it was made in New Zealand, so is it possible that I have a NZ pressing that's not listed on here?

Went Tyu
Hi, I have the same as you, NZ pressing. thx

Mr_TrOlOlO
speaking of classic : early punk greatest glory *****

Dianazius
Backing vocals on Jah War are by members of Misty in Roots - not surprisingly given that the song talks about the police beating of one of the Misty in Roots collective, Clarence Baker. "Pocky" is undoubtedly Walford "Poco" (or Poko) Tyson. Bertie is Delbert Ngoni McKay, but Rocky I don't know

Paster
Now solved. Rocky was Malcolm Owen's wife not sure of her real name though

Thetalen
My copy has a sticker on the front cover saying "Ruts 3.99 Dont pay more" in the red triangle

Ariseym
My copy has a marketed by rtc p.o.box 3829 auckland which is in new zealand so im guessing its a new zealand pressing.

OCARO
My version: Matrix/Runout Side A: V-2132-A6 STRAWBERRY WELL GRIN AND BARE IT FOR YOUMatrix/Runout Side B: V-2132-B-5 YOU´LL GRIN AND BARE IT FOR US! STRAWBERRY

Innadril
Mine same (Strawberry, not Townhouse) except with A7/B6 stampers.

Cherry The Countess
Not as famous as The Clash, but equally good. Yes, this album is a ska punk classic, which people outside of Britain never really captured. The tragic death of the singer in 1980 has apparently not helped their posthumous fame either. The problem is perhaps that they never became particularly radio friendly. I love the rhythms and the offensive energy.
