1995: Valery Gergiev conducting the San Francisco Opera Orchestra and Chorus with Renée Fleming (Salomé), Dolora Zajick (Hérodiade), Plácido Domingo (Jean), Juan Pons (Hérode), Kenneth Cox (Phanuel).

This is a beautiful performance. It is well recorded and well sung and played. Ben Heppner, shines a this point in his career. The rest of the cast performs very well. They may not be quite so individually memorable performers as on competitive versions but they are all very strong, secure vocalists.

Hérodiade - Acte II - Premier tableau - Scènes VI & VII : A mon approche quel trouble fait détourner les yeux ? (Vitellius, Hérode, Phanuel, Choeur, Salomé, Jean).

As Hérodiade herself, Nadine Denize sings with gloriously rich, firm tone, and Thomas Hampson’s portrait of Hérode could hardly be richer either vocally or dramatically. Penguin Guide Mor. elease Date: 11th Jun 2012.

His recordings with the orchestra include orchestral works, and operettas of Jacques Offenbach, including Orphée aux enfers, La Vie parisienne, La Périchole and La belle Hélène, and Bizet's Carmen. Plasson resigned as principal conductor in 2003 and now has the title of "Honorary Conductor", or conductor emeritus.
