Out on the island, it's such a beautiful island, with the swaying trees and the summer breeze, there is only one place to b. .The sky was full of diamonds, some of them were falling. The cloud came by and covered up the skyline. Voices in the distance, I could swear I heard them calling me, (calling me) taking me back to you behind the tree-line out on the island. And I feel good I feel good, with the swaying trees and the summer.

Following the March 1979 meltdown at Pennsylvania's Three Mile Island nuclear reactor (the worst accident in United States nuclear power plant history), Jackson Browne, Graham Nash, Bonnie Raitt, Harvey Wasserman and John Hall joined forces to found the activist group Musicians United for Safe Energy. Raising awareness of safe energy alternatives and advocating against the use of nuclear energy, MUSE would stage a monumental week-long series of concerts at New York City's Madison Square Garden, in addition to a massive public rally held in Battery Park, attended by nearly 200,000

Of the album's 10 tracks, I feel like there is only one song, "Helicopter Song," to which I'm not attracted. On the other side of the coin, there are two absolutely outstanding tracks that can stand next to any of the works in Graham's canon, the title track "Earth and Sky" and "Magical Child. The latter is a beautiful song addressing the birth of Graham's second son, Will, who was born the same year as the album's release
