Had word from Michael Mayer at Kompakt that: "Our intention is to re-issue all Gas albums over the course of this year. Königsforst should be ready in May and Pop in September - depending on the pressing plant's mercy."

awesome news!!! I just got the Zauberberg LP reissue and it is incredible...

One of my favorite albums of all time, but depressingly expensive :(

Primitive and repetitious patterns without anything one would consider trendy. Not really music, but a wall of sound, impressions of ancient nature, choice of modern shaman. One either hates or loves this kind of stuff, it depends of the objective. If you just seek for music to listen, you will be disappointed and confused. It's just the same same thing looping over and over again. But if you seek sonic experience, get easily in "the state" by patterns and have ear for subtle details, then you may find this record transcendent experience.

As I'm sure many are anticipating at the moment, A Gas box set is on the way via Kompakt, all albums each properly reissued as triple LP's. Incredible news!

Sometimes I discover an amazing album then I look it up on discogs and feel sad for like a week

What other albums are you referring to? - - -

we all here cogs know the feeling bro.[some add.words needed to post that]

I know the feeling

I don't know how many times I've listened to this album... As I write this, I'm listening to it yet again, and not for the first time with tears running down my cheeks. I truly wish I understood why it moves me as it does but there's something so subtle, so soothing, so primal about this music that hits me in a way I can't begin to describe.Like other minimalist masterpieces this can be enjoyed in two completely polar ways. One can either revel and focus on the nuances and subtleties that build the warm, lush layers that this music is built upon, or one can just let go of any conceptions of what music is and should be and simply let this aural art sweep you away...Shutting your eyes is highly recommended.

dear wolfgang,i have to admit that back in 2000 my head was so far up my ass on what i thought was "good electronic music" as i continued to collect labels whilst ignoring others. i wish i could say to you "well i was starting a record label and really was living in my obsessive-compulsive world where nothing penetrated", but that excuse carries no weight because i discovered new music all the time, and most especially since i was already spinning tunes from your kompakt label. see, back then i was listening to pbo, machine drum and the m3rck and wobblyhead crew came to town and played at the empty bottle, prefuse all over the rapid transit comp, def jux was starting to bloom, i was mo'wax crazy and rawkus was dying while chicago (and to that extent, midwestern) hip-hop was what i was getting into.where do i begin, wolfgang? i mean, i was all into the orb, and fsol so listening to you would be the next extension, right? well, no. i didn't like your label at the time. i must admit how disappointed i was in the albums by kid 606 and the crappy "clicks and cuts" comp, so yeah, i missed out on "pop".that's why i'm writing this today, because of discogs, i'm able to have this album on vinyl (about 14 years late), and rejoice in the beauty of an album that is so forward thinking, yet so fucking simple and complex at the same time.so, remember wolfgang when you used the gas moniker to come up w/ the album "pop"? that was cool.easy, the rev.

Great review .. simple yet complex sums this up for me - the textures and layers keep your ears fixed for the entire duration.

*snicker snicker* Yes I was completely thrown off by the title. I rejected it at first... then I listened to the whole thing in the dark in my headphones.... It's a must have on Vinyl. Now if only I could afford it! :)

this album is truly a gem, so easy to get lost in the looped layers, this is what ambient psychedelic electronic music is meant to be... for me #4 and #7 keep me coming back to them repeatedly... a must have for anyone into bands like troum, dead voices on air, tinkertoy, boards of canada, and additionally has a certain hazy quality that would fit into the shoegaze sounds of bands like my bloody valentine and lovesliescrushing.

Appreciate these tips man, thank you

A beautiful album and one which has remained on my playlist ever since its initial release. Special mention must go to track 7, which at almost 15 minutes long is truly incredible. Like all the GAS tracks, this one is based on a single loop which is sustained for the entirety of the track, with subtle nuances which develop and shift as it progresses. Good repetition in music is a very difficult thing to achieve, since it is very easy to drift off and lose interest. In this case, the driving bassdrum and incredible atmosphere will keep you utterly absorbed from start to finish. Exceptional.

I would say this is the most impressive album ever. Its inexhaustible originality is just indescribable. This guy definetly has something unique in his sound. Second track by far is the strangest musical piece I've ever heard. Ultimate soundtrack to reality. MUST-LISTEN-TO !

This is one of the most haunting pieces of music I've heard. I'm not sure what my exact feelings are, but the previous reviewer is quite right - it puts you into sort of a dreamlike state. The music is quite peaceful, yet totally alien and emotionally ambiguous at the same time. I could interpret this as pleasantly blissful or eerily haunting depending on my state of mind, and that is a very unique quality.

gorgeous minimal loveliness. sexy cover too. it might seem that there's nothing going on, that might even be the point, yet it hard not to be affected by this music. wolfgang voigt at his best. autechre mix on his mike ink release "polka trax" on warp is a fine one too.
